Thibodeau's role w/Wolves: 'It's about alignment, not power'
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Tom Thibodeau came to Minnesota for the impressive young core of talent assembled. He came to the Timberwolves for the shiny new facilities and the chance to take over a team that has been at the bottom of the NBA and bring it back into the playoffs. And he came to work with a close friend in Scott Layden, forming a partnership with a man he has trusted for nearly two decades after he clashed with Bulls management in a messy exit from the Chicago last spring. ''For me personally, this is about alignment,''
Stephen Curry out at least 2 weeks with sprained right knee
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Stephen Curry will miss at least two weeks for Golden State with a sprained ligament in his right knee, dealing a blow to the Warriors' hopes of following a record-breaking season with a second straight championship. The Warriors said an MRI on Curry's knee Monday determined he had a Grade 1 sprain of the MCL and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. That timetable would lead to Curry missing the rest of the first round of the playoffs and likely at least the first four games in round two if the Warriors are
Analysis: The 12 minutes were Hinrich's most of the series, but all came in garbage time with the Hawks staked to a big lead. Hinrich has served primarily as the third-string point guard throughout his stint with the Hawks, averaging 0.5 points, 1.1 assists, and 0.9 rebounds over 6.1 minutes in 15 appearances, four of which have come in the playoffs.
Analysis: True to his word, coach Fred Hoiberg didn't hand Butler his usual allotment of minutes in a rather meaningless season finale, but it didn't prevent the swingman from recording his second triple-double of the season and his career, despite a poor shooting night. Butler was ultimately able to finish his fifth NBA season on the court rather than the training room, but it appears that he was never really back to full strength after straining his left knee shortly before the All-Star break. His pre- and post-break splits bear that out, as Butler posted averages of 22.4 points (on 45.8% shooting), 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.1 treys across 37.9 minutes in the first half, and 17.1 points (44.3%), 5.7 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.6 treys across 34.5 minutes in the second. All told, Butler was able to finish with career-best numbers in several categories, and with Derrick Rose on the decline and Pau Gasol unlikely to return to the club in free agency, the swingman cemented himself as the Bulls' franchise centerpiece. His well-rounded production should make him a high selection in fantasy drafts next season, though he's fraught with plenty of risk, as health issues have prevented him from playing more than 67 games in any of the past three campaigns.
